Living Room Plan

It feels good to be back!

As I mentioned in my last post, I have moved to Czech Republic, where I share an apartment with my boyfriend Matej. Lucky for us, the apartment came with all the furniture (too much furniture in my opinion). As we try to make the apartment look good, we have been holding off the living room since it really needs some work. I have taken out couple furniture pieces to the garage since the space is small. It feels better, but God, it does needs a miracle. I’ll be sharing with you my plans and vision for this room and I’ll share inspiration pictures and items we want to get. But first, you need to see the living room. Spoiler Alert… IT’S UGLY!

I told you it was ugly!

Having so many furniture pieces was not the only problem we faced, it is bulky, ugly and weirdly positioned. We have here what they call a 2+1, which means kitchen, living room and bedroom separated with walls plus the bathroom. The previous tenants wanted more natural light in the living room, so they switched the living room and the bedroom. In order to hang out on the living room you must past through the bedroom (weird right?!). We obviously changed it as soon as me moved. An by now we have decided on the furniture that we want to keep and the location. Here is a picture!

Here is the style we want to achieve.

Lot of work right? But I think I can make it work and here is my plan.

  1. The Rug– It is impossible to find a rug this beautiful in a low price range. Instead I came across a DIY painted rugs. And I want to try it! So I found a cheap plain rug from Ikea that I’ll be experimenting with. I’ll make sure to write about the process and share pictures with you once I start working on it!
  2. Coffee Table– I’m pretty sure you already know about marble-looking contact paper. I’ll be applying the paper on top and making sure to cover the edges. Also can make a blog post about this DIY
  3. Sofa and chairs– maybe the hardest thing to do. My plan is to cover the ugly fabric with some Ikea fabric. I want the sofa to have a color pop and I found a deep blue bed sheet, which is perfect since the sofa can be opened and used as a bed. For the chairs I’ll be using a light color fabric. Here is the combination.

  4. DIY Bar Cart– I am so excited for this project I found on pinterest. Also another possible blog post. Here is a picture!2ff58f5ff8255309a1a3bce6c51bcae7.jpgFrom myinnerfabulous.com
  5. Decoration– As far as pillows, curtains, pictures and small items go, I’ll be looking for white, black, earthy tones.
  6. Plants– This is one of my favorite parts! I want a big  euphorbia plant or a zamioculcas plant in a cute weave basket.

*I’m not sure if I want to add a floor lamp. We have enough lighting; 2 wall sconces, a ceiling flush and a medium sized window in the room. I have been thinking about the ceiling light and I might change it (well see).

Almost forgot to mention that we are getting rid of the baby yellow wall paint. Fresh coat of light grey color is going up. I told you I could make it work!

Stay tuned and don’t forget to leave your comment below with your suggestions 🙂
