Oliver’s Toddler Room

Design Plans and Progress

Oli’s 3rd birthday is coming up very soon, and our goal is to have this room ready by then. We are going to completely focus on this exciting project and make it extra special for our big boy.

Backstory

This room is actually the biggest in our house, but to be honest, the angled ceiling was throwing me off when deciding which room to make our master bedroom. Looking back, I think it was the perfect decision since for a kid’s room, an angled ceiling will be interesting and fun.

Until a couple of weeks ago, this room was used as a storage space, full of things we didn’t even realize we had. So, it’s about time to clean it all out and start from scratch (kinda difficult since where do we store the things that were inside???).

Inspiration

My vision for this room is to create a toddler room that isn’t too childish. I want to add color here and there, but most importantly, it needs to match his personality. I came across a couple of pictures and have been going back and forth about some details, but I finally made some decisions last week, and now we are ready to start.

I love the idea of a built-in bed with drawers underneath and want to incorporate a closet in a muted blue paint color. I’ll be mixing wood, blues, and some other fun colors with decor.

Here are some of the inspiration pictures I keep looking when creating a design plan.

This last picture captures the overall feeling I want to create for his room.

Design Plan

I originally had some other layout ideas, but when incorporating them into this specific room, they were not successful. So, I opted to put the bed all the way to the back. This gives me the chance to go for a bigger closet (storage is most needed in our house). The open floor for him to play is now much bigger than having the big pieces of furniture floating around.

I have already mentioned the angled ceiling, which makes this room a little bit tricky when designing, but after a couple of hours of layout planing, we have the perfect solution for this room.

An open space for play time was extremely important for me since right now Oli has no space in his actual room to play (our living room is full of toys and that has to change). Another important task is to add a desk as he likes to draw, and soon enough, he will be actually doing homework.

Progress

At the moment, we have built the bed frame and are currently working on the drawers.

Our next step is to figure out the headboard and storage unit on the foot side so we can start building those pieces and attach them to the bed frame. To save some time, we decided to get the Ikea Pax closet and make custom doors, so this week we are ordering it and hopefully putting it together 🙂

We are thrilled with the progress so far and can’t wait to see Oli’s reaction when he sees his new room. Our goal is to create a space that is not only functional but also a reflection of his vibrant personality. Stay tuned for more updates and the final reveal of Oli’s special room!

Thank you for following along on this journey with us.
